Terms of Use
These terms are an agreement between you and Recess Block ("we"). By creating an account you agree to them and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
The pilot
Recess Block is in an invite-only pilot for Mosby Woods families in Fairfax, Virginia. Features may change, pause or stop while we test. The app is free, and there is no buying or selling in it.
Your account
- You must be 18 or older and have an invitation or approval to join.
- Use your real first name or a name your neighbors will recognize. One account per person.
- Keep your password private. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
- Children may not have accounts or use yours to message other people.
Community rules
You agree not to:
- Harass, threaten, bully or discriminate against anyone.
- Post anything sexual, violent or hateful, or anything that puts a child at risk.
- Share another person's private information, including home addresses, phone numbers, children's names or schedules, without their permission.
- Pretend to be someone else, or misrepresent your connection to a school or organization.
- Sell, advertise or spam. Sharing in Recess Block is free: lend, borrow, give away or ask.
- Use the app for anything illegal, or try to access accounts, data or features you are not allowed to use.
Our Community Guidelines apply too.
Meeting and exchanging items
Recess Block helps neighbors connect; it does not check people, items or events.
- Meet in public or community places when you can, and do not share your home address until you are comfortable.
- Adults handle all exchanges. Children should not meet other adults alone to exchange items.
- Check items yourself, especially toys and gear for young children. Lent items are returned as agreed between the two of you.
- Activities and events are organized by members, not by Recess Block. Parents and guardians are responsible for supervising their own children.
Your content
You own what you post. You give us permission to store it and show it to the members who are allowed to see it, only to run the app. You are responsible for what you post and confirm you have the right to share it.
Reports, moderation and suspension
You can report any post, message or person. Moderators review reports within 24 hours and may remove content, warn, suspend or close accounts that break these terms. Moderators read a private conversation only when it has been reported. If you think we made a mistake, email support@therecessblock.com.
If you believe a child is in danger, call 911 first. Recess Block is not an emergency service.
Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time from the Profile tab in the app or by following the steps on our delete account page. We may close accounts that break these terms or end the pilot, and will try to give notice when we can.
Disclaimers and limits
The app is provided "as is" during the pilot. We are not responsible for the conduct of members, the condition of items, or what happens at activities or exchanges. To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you is limited to $100.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Changes
We will tell you in the app or by email before material changes take effect. Continuing to use the app afterward means you accept the updated terms.
